Quick reference
Grab-and-go settings for all four APN types — full detail on each below.
| Standard | Public static IP | Private (enterprise) | VPN / IPsec tunnel | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| APN | titus.iot | titus.static | titus.private | Per tunnel config |
| IP type | IPv4 (dynamic) | Public Static IPv4 | Private IPv4 | Per tunnel config |
| Auth | PAP/CHAP | PAP/CHAP | PAP/CHAP | PAP/CHAP |

| Best for | General internet breakout | CCTV, telematics, remote access | Corporate / regulated networks | Encrypted site-to-site routing |
The Risk
Why APN misconfiguration is the first thing to check
Every Titus Telecom SIM is provisioned to roam across three UK networks automatically — but the device has no way of knowing that until the APN, credentials and authentication method are entered correctly. The symptoms of a wrong setting look identical to a failed SIM or a dead network: no IP address, no data session, a device that looks dead from the outside.
- Device never registers on the network, or registers and immediately drops
- No IP address assigned, even though the SIM is active and in service
- Roaming disabled, so the SIM is stuck on one network instead of three
- Authentication rejected because PAP/CHAP wasn’t selected
- Wrong APN entered for the SIM type — e.g. static credentials on a private SIM
The setup
APN options available from Titus Telecom
Four types cover the vast majority of deployments.
Standard internet APN
General internet access — the majority of deployments.
Public static IP APN
Inbound access, remote management, fixed addressing.
Private APN (enterprise)
Closed-network deployments — traffic stays contained.
VPN & IPsec tunnel APN
Encrypted, end-to-end connectivity between your network and ours.
- IPsec tunnels
- GRE tunnels
- L2TP VPN
- MPLS handoff
Always required
These fields apply no matter which APN you're using.
APN name: Provided by Titus Telecom
Username / password: Required
Authentication: PAP/CHAP
Roaming: Must be enabled
Network mode: Auto (4G/5G preferred)
Don't turn roaming off. Titus Telecom SIMs are multi-network by design — disable roaming and you've turned a multi-network SIM back into a single-network one, losing the failover that's the whole point of the product.
Device setup
Example configuration on common hardware — click to expand.
Teltonika RUT series
- Log in to the router (default:
192.168.1.1) - Network → Mobile
- Disable Auto-APN
- Enter APN, username, password
- Set auth to PAP/CHAP
- Enable roaming
- Save and reboot
Huawei / ZTE CPE
- Open the web interface
- Network Settings → Mobile Network → APN
- Add new profile with APN, username, password
- Set auth to PAP/CHAP
- Enable roaming
- Apply and restart
Quectel / Sierra Wireless
Configure via AT commands:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","<APN>" AT+UAUTH=1,1,"<USER>","<PASS>" AT+CGATT=1 AT+CFUN=1
Check IP:
AT+CGPADDR
Validation checklist
Before you call a deployment done, confirm:
- Device shows Registered / Attached
- IP address assigned (static or dynamic, depending on the APN)
- Successful ping to your server or 8.8.8.8
- Roaming is enabled
- Authentication is set to PAP/CHAP
- Data session stays stable for 60+ seconds
Troubleshooting
No IP address assigned
- Log in to the router (default:
192.168.1.1) - Network → Mobile
- Disable Auto-APN
- Enter APN, username, password
- Set auth to PAP/CHAP
- Enable roaming
- Save and reboot
Device not switching networks
Roaming disabled — enable it. Network mode forced to a single band — set it to Auto. Weak signal — reposition the antenna.
Authentication errors
Incorrect credentials. Wrong APN entered for the SIM type (e.g. titus.static credentials on a titus.private SIM). Outdated device firmware.
Security & network management
- Encrypted tunnels (IPsec, GRE, L2TP)
- Private routing environments that never touch the public internet
- Static addressing for predictable, auditable access
- SIM-level security policies
- Optional IMEI locking, so a SIM only works in the device it was issued for

Stable data session
No drops from misapplied auth or disabled roaming.
Predictable IP
Static public or private where it's needed.
Faster diagnostics
Checklist and symptom-based fixes cut guesswork.
Locked-down traffic
Private APNs and tunnels off the open internet.
Frequently asked questions
What APN do I use for a Titus Telecom IoT SIM?
It depends on the deployment. Use titus.iot for standard internet breakout, titus.static for a public static IP, or titus.private for a closed enterprise network.
Do I need to enable roaming on a Titus Telecom SIM?
Yes. Titus SIMs are multi-network and switch between EE, O2, Vodafone, and Three automatically. Disabling roaming loses that failover.
How does multi-carrier connectivity support emergency response?
Our multi carrier Sim will connect to any US network – if a network drops out it will connect to the next available network.
Can I get a static public IP on an IoT SIM?
Yes. Low-latency multi-carrier connectivity is designed to keep pace with edge computing devices processing live video, so AI-driven traffic analytics run smoothly rather than queuing behind a slow or congested connection.
